You're there, and I don't say anything.
My eyes are caught, unmoving,
staring into that palpable, infinite middle distance.
I wonder if you can see it, too.
I wonder if you can feel it.
It's an empty void, circling, transfixing,
never-ending and boundless,
and absolutely frozen—
chapping my lips before I can make a sound—
it burns at the touch.
I dream of my thoughts
chiseling through that icy space
and reaching you,
and maybe, if only just a little, it warms that emptiness.
And maybe it melts a bit, too.
