Smudges

Did you know that the reason I keep my mirror so clean
Is so that I, sometimes, forget that there’s glass there at all
—no, I didn’t expect you to—
But it makes me feel less alone.

Last night I looked in
And I couldn’t remember when I started looking like this
—no, I don’t think I do—
So we just had a small conversation and then I turned in for the night.

Today I wondered who else has been thinking this
And just didn’t tell me
—no—
What I’m saying is, I’m going to leave smudges behind on purpose now.
